Profile

Sangbae Lee received his B.Sc. in Chemistry, Hanyang University, Seoul and pursued his M.Sc. degree at the same school under Dr. Yongdo Won (currently, CHARMM coordinator). After the pharmaceutical experiences from Choongwae pharmaceutical company (Senior Researcher; 1998-2002) and University of Houston (Visiting Scholarship; 2003-2004), He moved to Gainesville, Florida, the U.S. in 2005 for starting Ph.D studies. He worked on free energy changes associated with the motions of a critical active site loop using an enhanced sampling method named OSRW. After obtaining his Ph.D., he has worked at Indiana University as a first postdoctoral (2010-2012) and moved to National Cancer Center, California in 2012. From 2012 to 2016, he worked as a second postdoctoral and was promoted as a staff scientist in 2016. He was an internationally recognized biophysicist for his contributions in developing (un)constrained molecular dynamics simulation methods with emphasis on application to G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and drug design. Especially, the prediction of the binding site interactions of agonists and antagonists with GPCR receptors greatly streamlines the drug development process.
