R&D Team / Research Scientist
ProfileOriginally from the southern part of India, a French colonial city named Pondicherry, where Jay did his BS in Biotechnology and MS in Bioinformatics from Pondicherry University. Jay then moved to South Korea, Busan to pursue PhD in Chemical Engineering with a Specialization in Protein Engineering at Pusan National University. During grad school, Jay developed a new macroscopic descriptor - Joint descriptor and analyzed transmembrane protein conformations that are primary drug targets. Before joining PharmCADD, Jay transitioned from Protein folding to RNA folding and spent almost 2 years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research/MIT in Cambridge, MA. At MIT, Jay explored the structure-function relationship in RNA and their influences in gene expressions, especially alternative splicing mechanism which has a lot of potential for therapeutic targets. Conformational analysis coupled with drug discovery is his long-term goals and aligns well with PharmCADD visions. Outside of work, Jay loves to run every day, cook good food and bike for long-distance a lot. He also enjoys travelling, books, chess and movies.
